About Dr. Paul Hersh

I have gratefully counseled individuals and families for over 60,000 hours. I began my career doing drug and alcohol counseling in the late 80’s when I was 19. I was absolutely clear that I wanted to become a highly effective therapist, but knew there was no shortcut for the “seasoning” required to become masterful.

Thus, I was driven to learn from the best in my field. I spent my early years in countless hours of extra supervision, trainings, and workshops. My mentors were adamant that we can only take people as far as we’ve come. So, I coupled my training with years of individual and group psychotherapy in various modalities. The idea was simple: Be curious. Be courageous. Be honest. I am so happy to say that this worked! In my 20’s I directed or was the program coordinator for three outpatient and two inpatient programs. Ive seen the depths of human suffering and the beauty of true joy. Ive been in private practice for over 20 years in Westlake, California, and absolutely love what I do.
